FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What's the difference between ORS & Electrolyte Drink Mix? +

ORS has almost 3 times the sodium, almost 4x the potassium, over 6x the magnesium, plus zinc, vitamin C, and 12g sugar instead of 4g. ORS is almost a 20g serving size, while Electrolyte Drink Mix is a 7g serving size, yet both are designed for 16oz of water.

When would I use ORS instead of Electrolyte Drink Mix? +

In short - under extreme conditions, high heat stress, and rapid sweat loss. ORS is specifically designed around the World Health Organization's specification for oral rehydration solution. This formula is the fastest way we can expedite fluids from the stomach into the bloodstream, effectively rehydrating the individual faster than other solutions and much faster than plain water. Applications for this include acute rehab for firefighters or confined space entry work in PPE and under heat stress. Essentially, anytime where the body can lose fluids rapidly, and expeditious replacement reduces risk in the workplace and increases positive outcomes for the individual.

Why do you add sugar to ORS? +

The sugar added to ORS comes specifically from the research conducted by the World Health Organization. In short, our body has transporters in our digestive tract for sugars, and when those transporters absorb sugar, they absorb water and sodium ions as well. This gives us a second pathway to absorb fluids and sodium, speeding the process specifically because of the presence of sugar. More sugar is not better, better balance is better. The amount of sugar, specifically glucose, is in a very specific ratio to the amount of sodium, potassium and water to maximize the absorption.

How does ORS compare in price to competing "ORS" products? +

On average, we are 40% cheaper than common competitors. Fire departments who switch to Fluid Tactical ORS will save at least 40%, and savings of 50% are not uncommon when you consider volume price discounts.

Where is it made? +

All our powders are made in Southern California in our family-owned, FDA registered, and third party tested facility. We are certified and audited by both BRC and LGC Inc, the parent company of Informed Sport testing.
